Camping season is finally here! What better moment to brush up on best practices before your first trip into the wild?

1. Bring a small bin for washing dishes

To avoid doing your dishes directly in lakes or rivers, bring a small container you can fill with non-potable water for washing up. Choose a biodegradable option like Dish, our gentle liquid dish soap. Once you’re done, remove as much food debris as possible and compost it. Then, scatter the dirty water well away from any nearby water source.

Need a demo? This video, created in collaboration with the Poisson Blanc Regional Park, breaks it down nicely.

2. Pack light with solid personal care products

The goal of every good camper: staying comfortable without lugging gear back and forth between your car and campsite. When it comes to personal care, skip the fragrances (mosquitos love them!) and avoid anything that might leak in your bag.

The solution? A solid, fragrance-free routine. Pack our Soap Bar, Shampoo Bar, Conditioner Bar, and Lotion Bar to stay clean, fresh, and spill-free.

Once opened, store them in a protective case like the Unscented Co. x Matador Soap Bar Dry Bag for easy transport.

3. Borrow instead of buying

Only go camping a few times a year? Consider borrowing gear instead of buying new. Sometimes a quick post on social media is all it takes to round up everything you need for a successful, lower-impact trip — without the extra cost.

Can’t find anyone to lend you gear? Check out reSAIL, the second-hand platform from Canadian outdoor retailer SAIL. It’s a great place to find high-quality pre-owned items at accessible prices.
